Guests are welcome.\nFeatured speakers are:\nKaty Tyndell candidate for KS District 4 &\nLogan DeMond of ACLU\n\nKaty Tyndell brings a strong background in law\, leadership\, and civic engagement to her campaign in KS-04. A fifth-generation Kansan\, she moved to Wichita from Washington\, D.C.\, where she was a staff attorney for the National Congress of American Indians. She now manages Tallgrass Management\, LLC\, overseeing operations and serving as legal advisor for affiliated family companies.\nKaty is a co-founder of the civic engagement organization Leading Kansas\, the former chair of the Sedgwick County Fire District Steering Committee\, and a long-time volunteer for Moms Demand Action and the Wichita NAACP. She holds a B.A. from Stanford (2004) and a J.D. from the University of Maryland (2009)\, and is licensed to practice law in four states\, including Kansas. Her legal expertise\, nonprofit leadership\, and deep Kansas roots guide her work to advance civic renewal\, accountability\, and cross-partisan dialogue. She’s inspired daily by her husband and their three children to help build a stronger\, more just Kansas.\nKaty Tyndale’s Website\n  \nLogan DeMond  \nBorn and raised in Broken Arrow\, Oklahoma\, Logan moved to Larned\, KS when he was fifteen. He attended Larned High School and lived with his mother and grandfather\, a lifelong Kansas farmer. Logan graduated from Bethel College where he played football and earned a bachelor’s degree in communication arts and history and political science.\nAfter getting his start in Wichita politics as Deputy Campaign Manager for former Mayor Brandon Whipple\, Logan moved to Topeka to serve as Legislative Director for the Kansas House Democrats and House Minority Leader Vic Miller. In addition to his legislative work\, in his role as Deputy Political Director and as a consultant\, Logan helped recruit a record number of female and minority candidates and worked with over 100 municipal and state legislative candidates across Kansas.\nLogan joined the ACLU as Director of Policy and Research in July of 2025.\n  \nAttending candidates are welcome to briefly speak later in the meeting. She has been a volunteer with the Johnson County Democratic Party since 2019\, the Johnson County Election Office since 2018\, and served as the vice president for the local chapter of the League of Women Voters in 2023 – 2024. She is also a member of the Kansas Federation of Democratic Women\, and the Greater KC Women’s Political Caucus. Jennifer also served in the Kansas House of Representatives from 2020 – 2021. In her professional life\, she worked as an executive assistant for various corporations for 15 years before starting her own interior design and real estate investment business in 2013. \nMarty Tully is a candidate for Governor of Kansas and is a fourth-generation Kansan with deep roots in our state’s soil and values. He grew up throwing hay\, chasing cattle\, and learning life’s lessons in the classroom and on the football field. His family is made up of farmers\, public school teachers\, and working folks who believe in showing up\, telling the truth\, and doing what’s right — even when it’s hard. \nSCDW dues are $30 per year. You may pay them by check at our meeting or on-line.  We appreciate any additional donations which we will give to help elect Democratic Women and others who share our values. \nHope to see you there!

We are committed to boosting civic engagement by regularly hosting local candidates for forums and discussions and helping students find their polling place\, how to register to vote\, and more. By hosting these events\, we get to leverage our unique position on a college campus by interacting with a diverse range of voices\, including people from across the political spectrum and those who are apolitical. Ultimately\, we strive to educate students on key political and social issues and empower them to become leaders who create meaningful change in their communities.

Guests are welcome. \nSpeaker: Joseph Shepard \nJoseph Shepard is a dedicated community leader and public servant with deep roots in Wichita. He is a two-time graduate of Wichita State University\, holding a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice\, a Master’s in Public Administration\, and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Joseph is running for Wichita City Council District 1 on three core pillars: Economic Advancement\, Cultivating Community\, and Strengthening Trust between the People and Local Government. His call to serve is embedded in his DNA\, but he answered the call to pursue elected office because of his strong desire to address the challenges facing District 1 and his commitment to working with anyone who shares a genuine vision for the district’s success. As Chief of Staff at Lead For America and a community volunteer with organizations like HumanKind Ministries and The Kansas African American Museum\, Joseph brings a lived experience of resilience and a relentless drive to build a city where everyone feels safe\, seen\, and valued.
